GI pipes vs HDPE: which riser pipe for your borehole?

Both work — the right choice depends on depth, water quality and budget.

Galvanised iron (GI)

• Very strong, handles deep heavy pumps
• Can rust in acidic or salty water over time

HDPE

• Light, easy to install, does not rust
• Needs proper clamps and a safety rope

For very deep boreholes with heavy pumps we usually recommend heavy-gauge GI; for shallow and solar boreholes HDPE is often the better value. Talk to us for advice.
